Church of England Voluntary Controlled Status
Our school has a voluntary controlled Church of England status.
What does that mean to you and your child?
This entitles us to focus our spiritual worship and religious education on Christian teachings. It empowers us to involve the church in aspects of our work and pupil's experiences. This is expressed in the ethos statement established by the governors:-
"The school aims to provide an education and learning environment of the highest quality within the context of Christian belief and practice. It promotes Christian values whilst respecting the beliefs of others.
Acknowledging its historic traditions, the school, in partnership with the church at local and area level, will continue to develop its religious character in accordance with the principles of the Church of England."
In practical terms it means that the church can nominate three foundation governors, of which, one is usually the resident vicar of the parish. The church has no financial responsibility for any of the work, the school or its buildings. Ministers of other denominations and other faiths are also welcome and share in our assemblies from time to time.
